Erin's House family is given a car after TinCaps game

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — One local family got the surprise of a lifetime after Friday night’s TinCaps game.

Patricia Mathus is a dedicated single mother who is working two jobs to make the best life for her children. She hasn’t had reliable transportation for almost a year, but that all changed.

This is the 8th consecutive year that Gerber Collision & Glass and Allstate have teamed up with Erin’s House for Grieving Children to donate a car to someone in need.

Though Mathus was picked to receive such a generous gift Friday night, she said she couldn’t have imagined her journey with Erin’s House leading her here.

“We came to Erin’s House because my niece died. I didn’t know how to help my kids navigate that and they have been there for us every step of the way,” said Mathus.
